Feelin' the LOVE

I pulled out the Valentine's Day Decor and realized I needed 2 things. A table runner and center piece. I got the runner done during nap time on Friday. Now I need to figure out what to put in the vase to make it look "Lovely". My first thought was candy...but I would have an empty vase when the kids got home from school.

popping in

Just stopping by to show you a couple projects...

another calendar pocket, (which I am in love with)

I'm thinking about selling these in my etsy shop (in custom colors).  What do you think?

and a quilt for my nephew, Ben.  the backing was my inspiration (that and my circle cutter)!

Now I'm off to Hobby Lobby (again).

Why am I so nervous?

I love this pattern. I actually have re-worked a few petals since I took these pictures. They lay flatter now. But the new pictures looked awful. So, here we go.

As a newbie to the group, I was so nervous! (Even after all of my stalking last year.)

Hope you like them, Emily. I had fun.

Bring on February!

dreams

I was reading this blog last night before I fell asleep last night. Hence 2 dreams involving 2 of our members. Thought I would share.

Becca invited us to the "barn" house for some fall festivities. Her house was surrounded with acres and acres of pumpkins. We carved jack-o-lanterns (Jen won the contest), ate pumpkin soup and pumpkin bars. We had our sewing machines there, but no sewing was done...Random!

While Kristen was away in Germany she had to change the name of her family blog to "And now we are SEVEN". just sayin'.

Makes Me Happy

I think I'm in love with this simple pattern and colors. It just so happens that I got an area rug for my living room in these same colors (with a little red mixed in). So I will be coping this idea and making me a bright pretty petal quilt for myself. Thanks Emily (hope you don't mind)!
See how nice it would go

color on a dreary day

I had so much fun mixing and matching colors and fabrics for these squares.
I hope you like what I chose, Emily!

ps-I'm thoroughly enjoying how busy our blog is getting again. I'm loving seeing all of your posts!

Loving all your petals

I know I'm not a member this year but I hope you don't mind if i still lurk and admire and drool and also ask for tips now and then. :) This year my quilting goal is to learn to make the quilt sandwich, bind, machine quilt, etc... so I can put all of your gorgeous mod mosaics together. I did quilt a little wall hanging for my sister but this is a totally different animal. So I'm wondering what websites you all can direct me to that are most helpful. Also, any favorite quilting basics books? Thanks in advance!

And just because blog posts are boring without pictures, here's the sweater I'm knitting for my little one. Because you all know my first love is in the needles :)

shoulda done this a year ago!

emily

Kristin took this photo!

let's see... in case you need a refresher, here is my original intro.  not much has changed, except I had the crazy idea to make my nieces and nephews quilts for their birthdays in 2011.  I have 2 1/4 left to make (including one for a niece due on Sunday) and am a few months behind.  But it has been fun and I hope they know how much I love them when they snuggle under their quilt.  Here are the quilts I made last year:

I have four kids (11, 10, 9, and 7), I dig "Modern Family", I love to create, and I love to laugh.
I am excited to "bee" again and thank you in advance for your squares this month!

"Quilting is the new Knitting"

I found this article in Southern Living. It made me smile and think, "hey, we are kinda cool..." a thought later I realized maybe Southern Living isn't really a 'gauge your coolness' by a magazine kinda read?! Oh well...

On another note, totally in LOVE with this dresser!!! If you ever find one buy first then call me!

To: Em Love, Jen

Em,
These squares gave me an excuse to go back to my favorite quilt shop in OKC.
(Quiltworks, if you are curious.)
The following pictures are a great example of how much lighting changes in just 30 minutes.
Trust me, they look much better in person.
I hope they work well in your quilt.
Love ya,
Jen

hello, again

I think most of you know me since I've been harassing you all with emails.  But, here are some things that have been on my mind lately, if you are interested:
  • I have been growing my hair out for over a year and in my mind, it is very long.  Like Pentecostal long (see photo).
  • I like up-close photos of fabric, so that you can see the texture of the cloth and the stitching.  It makes me happy.
  • I have two children (8 and 4) who like me to sew things for them.  This also makes me happy.
  • I live in a barn.
  • I work at Walmart.
  • Someday, I may write a book about living in a barn and working at Walmart.
  • Recently, I've been watching Downton Abbey and read a book called "The Forgotten Garden" (which takes place in England) and now I can't stop thinking to myself with a British accent.
  • I just finished my 12Squared quilt from last year.  Take that 2011 to-do list!  I absolutely love it.  I get nothing but warm fuzzies when I look at each square.  I can't wait to do it again!

An introduction

Hey girls! I'm Robyn and I am very excited (and a little nervous) to be a 12 squared-er! Mainly nervous because I'm more of a yarn girl than a fabric girl. But, I'm excited to jump back into the sewing world, make new friends, learn a lot, and get a quilt of my own choosing. Quite a deal.

I guess the best way to sum me up is that I have a Utah birth certificate, a Georgia driver's license, an Illinois license plate and an Arkansas address. We've most recently moved to Little Rock from Chicago in June 2011 and (thanks to many a kind member of this group) our transition has gone well despite a lot of crazy goings on. We've taken some licks here in L.R., but we're grateful to be here and moving forward.

"We" includes my husband, Matt, and our three boys, Jacob (6), Nicholas (4) and Benjamin (20 months).

If you're dying to know more (I'm sure you all are!) I feel like my blog tells a better story than I do.

Looking forward to a fun year!

camie's petal block

These are for you Emily and they're on their way.  Super fun to make.  Honestly, it's more agonizing making squares for others than I thought.  I keep looking at Becca's perfect seams and fabrics...

Meet Nicole

I am Nicole.  Jen is my sister.  She helped me finagle my way into your little group; which, I am so pleased to be a part of.

I day dream of having a little farm with chickens, ducks and geese, bees, a milking cow, a horse and an amazing garden.  All of these things will obviously take care of themselves and I will have plenty of time to cook, read, travel, quilt, bake bread, can and most importantly cuddle with my babies on a quilt (my 12-squared quilt) under a weeping willow.  I will go into town only when I need to buy designer clothing and amazing fabric.

I will let you know my quilting taste when it is my month.  Maybe by November I will have it figured out.

I thought the questionnaire from last year was a good get-to-know-you so here we go…

Where do you live? In the arctic.  Logan, Utah.
Favorite past time? Being with my boys, my husband and my baby.
Favorite pizza toppings?  I do not discriminate.  I love all pizza.  Although, straight up pepperoni is not for the belly.
Favorite actor? I have a major girl crush on Zooey Deschanel.  I want her hair and her porcelain skin.
Embarrassing moment?  I embarrass easily, so I have many.  Most recently, posting my personal pictures to the 12-squared blog.
Dream car?  My dream would be to never have to drive again.  If I can’t have that, I would settle for anything that drives, is reliable and fits my whole family and all our stuff.
Favorite midnight snack?  I don’t snack at midnight.  I do really enjoy salt and vinegar kettle chips though.
Do you sing in the shower? No.
Which physical feature you get complimented on the most often?  I am not sure if it is a compliment or not, mostly just awkward, but many people comment on my lack of excess adipose tissue.  I personally like my legs.
What crazy thing do you want to try someday:  Joining an online quilting group.
Favorite blogs:  I don’t read a ton of blogs.  My sister’s is the only one I read regularly and I like hers a lot.

greetings from deutschland!

hey there all-

i'm kristin. i know most of you, but to the newcomers, welcome! it's fun to add new sewers to our mix.

we just moved our family of 6 abroad, so we're a little crazy for the time being.

i love to sew all kinds of things for my four children, bags, and clothes for myself.

last year was my first attempt at quilting and it definitely found it's place in my heart.

i can't wait for another year of monthly projects, and to broaden my quilting horizon.

i am really looking forward to getting settled in a house so i can spread out again...this keeping all of my sewing stuff packed up is for the birds!!

i've spotted a few little sewing spots around our new little village in germany, and i can't wait to scour europe for special fabrics and notions to add to my stash- and of course to share with my friends:)

thanks for having me back, 12squared!

Re-introducing Liz

Hi all!
This is my intro from last year.

Here's what's new:
My Mom joined the group! Hooray!
We just totaled our car just before Christmas and I got my dream car! (see first intro)
We trekked out to Bryant, AR, and enjoyed our favorite pizza of allllll time! (see first intro)
And I did a lot of quilting!
Here are the pinwheels that the 12squared girls made me last year! I love them! They live on my couch and I love refolding it all the time to show off different squares :)
I can't wait to do more quilting this year!
Happy New Year!

Sarah

Hi all!  I'm Sarah and am so excited to be apart of this group!  I get to claim Becca as my cousin who I've always admired.  I've sewn since forever...shirts and dresses for me and tons of dresses for my girls and costumes for my kids but I have yet to make a quilt, so I was so exited (and a little nervous) when Becca called and asked if I would like to be apart of the group.  We are expecting to move this week and my sewing machine has been packed away for the last 3 1/2 months and after picking out some fabric last week i'm itching to unpack it and start up!
I'm a mom of three and love to be active and busy in anything...my recent crafty adventure has been with sugar cookies of all things. :)
I couldn't resist.... Becca is the oldest girl and I'm the one her right :) ..us girls had to stick together in our  mostly boy family :)
Here's my family- husband Trent, son- Carson, red head-Audrey and youngest Jordan
Here's to a great year!

Becca's Petal Block

These pictures came out a little brighter than they are in person.  Hopefully, they'll work with your quilt, Emily!

Amy Gardner

I'm Amy. I'm thrilled to start our second year of 12squared! I learned a lot this past year and can say that I have added quilting to my list of creative outlets that make me happy. I love to create. Be it sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, and all things crafty (except glitter...I hate glitter...why oh why does my 8 year old love it?) Life gets busy at my house with 4 kids and a husband who has to spend more time at the hospital than home, but there is always time to make something homemade.

these are for you, em

The lighting is terrible so they colors aren't true but you can get a sense of the patterns, at least.  If something is off or not to your taste, say so!  I aim to please.  Can you tell someone is so excited?!

camie

I'm Camie and I can't wait to get started!  I went fabric shopping for Emily's quilt square today and had a blast.  It has been a while (6 years) since I've immersed myself in quilting but I think I've caught the bug again which is a nice feeling.  Emily is my dear, talented cousin who invited me to participate.  I love everything she has ever made so let's just say that her style is my style too.  I'm not all that creative but I'm a pretty good copycat.  I can't wait to let you inspire me.
I'm a busy mom of four kids ages 9, 6, 4 and 2.  You can find us out and about on excursions or in the kitchen baking up something delicious.  We have a fun time sharing what we create on my blog.

Mardie Tobler

Becca asked the new members to introduce themselves. I am mother of 5 (including Liz), mother-in-law of 4 (including Teriney), grandmother of 9 with more coming this year! I love to garden and I love to quilt and piece. (I am much better at piecing than getting the quilting done!) Anyway, I was a 12Squared "stalker" last year. I found the things that your group did so inspiring. I made almost all of your squares. (Stalker...) So, I am delighted to be part of your group and can't wait to get started.

I thought I would send a picture of what I chose for TradingPieces to do for me. It is a "Scrappy Star". I love it. But without sashing between the squares, it has been a chore to make them uniform enough to sew together. I am working on getting it done this week.

I also loved Becca's rainbow quilt so much I made one of my own! It is on our guest bed. Out with the shabby chic, in with a rainbow of color!
