A little behind...

Kristin,

I hope these snowballs don't melt on their summer voyage overseas. They're not perfect but I sure had fun making them.  You can choose which one you want, I wasn't sure if the one on the left was to busy/foliage-y? Please forgive their late arrival.

Summer Snowballs

I am indebted to Teriney for helping me with this square for Kristin! I found plenty of grey but could find no mustard and she saved the day!

This is another quilt I cannot wait to see finished! I imagine all these grays and yellows will form awesome patterns that we can't see yet!

April's Flowering Snowball

which truly couldn't be more appropriately themed for my German spring! we go from promising sunshine to overcast and snowflakes in the blink of an eye.
so here is my tutorial, complete with a pattern and a third party tutorial linky- because sometimes the third party's say it better than i do :)
pattern pieces; only three. you will need to cut 4 of piece A, 4 of piece B, and 1 C. i'll list the color specs toward the bottom of the post.
here is your layout, you'll start with a corner.
if curves are new to you, this is a great place to start. these are quite simple, just take your time.
you'll want to line these points up, go ahead and bring that gray piece (B) all the way so that it's even with the straight edge on piece (A). it will make the curved seam a little more even.
i have found it easier to not use pins, but try it out, see what is more comfortable for you.
with one corner complete, attach the middle (C) piece to (A) pieces.
 onto the opposite corner-
now attach the three pieces together- please carefully line up piece (C) with the corner pieces (A).

you should end up with 12" block. after a couple of attempts to get the colors right- i've decided to change them slightly from what you see here. the yellow pieces will remain, the plum pieces will also be yellow. the B's will remain a light gray and white/low value. piece C will be a dark gray.

i'm looking for rich mustard yellows- not citrus.
 ^^^^^^more this^^^^^

and for the grays, i want the grays to have a presence, but not compete with the yellow. if you could use different fabrics for each of the B pieces and please, if possible, use light gray and white monotone fabrics. think, low volume. for the C piece- darker gray. not black, but something that contrasts with your B pieces.

no need to trim your block once you've finished, just please make sure that it's at least a 12" square. i will mail the template in the morning- if you are stash short and need any of the color requests please let me know and i'll include them.

danke, friends!! Happy chilly April!

Camie's punchy cabin

I had so much fun with this one!! One of the best parts was that I used almost all scraps :)

The whole time I worked on this
I was thinking of fruit punch...I hope the colors are okay.

Such a happy square. Thanks, Camie!
(I promise that the feather scrap is orange and not red😁)

My dearest, ever-forgiving Emily-

I received the extra fabric in the mail on Friday....

I completed your block today. Once completed I noticed yet another slice in the doves. Ugh....(this was from my original screw up, not a new screw up)

So I did what any good friend would do- I picked out just enough for you to replace it. I thought it would be easier than asking you to send me

ONE.MORE.TRIANGLE.

I truly love this square, but I don't think the feelings are mutual. The doves are offended and my hands are tied without a fabric superstore nearby.

I will send extra chocolate.

Can we still be friends? I understand if you say no....

Your (cut-challenged) friend,
Kristin

yes, drill sergeant!

i finished a few things this last year- and i felt the red laser beams in a recent email so i thought i would get these out there.

i'm currently hand quilting a voile quilt. it's something that I've been collecting scraps and pieces for for a few years-
i can't seem to locate the full size picture of it, but i'll post as soon as it's finished. i used a wool batting, which is new for me, and so far i'm really loving the feel!

this one is for my youngest. i sent it off to be professionally quilted and didn't love the results. back to hand quilting for me :)

GRANNY SQUARES!!! so in love with this one. it's next on the "to be quilted" list. isn't it fab?!?! nice works, ladies!

this is one that i made for my mom for her birthday. i've had the entire collection of flea market fancy sitting on my shelf and it was calling to me.
i hand quilted the entire thing. i love the way it turned out.

a baby blanket for a friend here in germany- i have another *noah* blanket in the works as well.

just some pj pants for my littles. my almost teenager informed me that this would be the last year for matching pj bottoms....the end of an era. brat.

Beautiful blocks for beautiful ladies

Okay, first I have to say that joining this quilting club/bee/group was the most fun thing I have done for myself in a long time.  Not even considering the fun of learning new blocks, or having a "reason" to add to my stash, the joy of getting something so lovely as a pile of fabric in the mail is such a wonderful addition to a normal, blah day.  So when Mardie's envelope arrived with all the fabric for her patriotic star, it was just the inspiration I needed to set aside my cleaning and get cozy with my machine.  But I felt guilty working on her block, when I still needed to finish two other blocks, so I worked on them in order, even if they were technically all completed on the same day! :)

First up is Cami's fun, scrappy block.  I really love how the craziness of all the different fabrics is toned down by the borders of white.  True, completely scrappy quilts are too much for me, but I love, love, love the look of this, and have now decided to make one for myself.  Someday, you know, when I finished all the other half-done quilts in my closet.  Ahem.

Next up was the delightfully uncomplicated modern cross for Kristin.  It went together so quickly, I made two.
And of course, I HAD to make it in Switzerland colors! :)
Finally, the beautiful patriotic star for Mardie.  This was just tricky enough that I had to pull out some stitches.  Apparently, relying on my memory for which way the stripes were supposed to go was a bad call. I kept the tutorial up on my computer, right next to my sewing machine after that.  And everything went together perfectly.  I wish we could sew the other blocks as well, just so I could learn something new.

October: a Modern Cross

Are y'all ready?? It's so easy, and quick! Perfect for the month when (some of us) are feverishly working on homemade Halloween masterpieces...
This block consists of 9 smaller blocks, 4 of which are pieced together.

You'll need: (4) 5" squares of the fabric of your choosing
(1) 5" square of Kona White
(4) 2.75" x 5" rectangles of the same fabric of your choosing
(4) 2.75" x 5" rectangles of Kona white

Fabric: we'll be using Kona white to make the cross, and one more fabric- anything but pink. It's okay if there is pink in the print as long as it's not the superstar.

So here goes the tutorial-
layout your pieces like this ^ ^ ^
then like this ^ ^ ^
then like this ^ ^ ^
attach your rectangle's, right sides together and press away from the white

then attach all your small squares to make one big square. just make sure all of the white is in the center :)

Your block should finish at 14".

What do you think? Too vague? Not detailed enough? I'm happy to answer questions. Also, I'd be happy to provide the Kona white if you need it!

Thanks friends. I'm excited.

Tri-Bex!

These were fun! I hope you approve of these fabric choices. I'll include more triangles, I know you need extra for a queen sized masterpiece!
Love and miss!!

Giving thanks- the block

Such a fun pattern! I hope the color values feel right to you, Cindy.

For those of you who haven't started your block- I would highly recommend chain piecing, if that's your thing. It helps speed things along.

I will get this in the mail tomorrow!

(Also, how beautiful the addressed envelope! I would love to purchase a rubber stamp with your lovely script. Do you know how to go about making something like that?)
