Cobblestones and Bricks

Hey Ladies!
I wanted to make it to the sewing get together tonight so bad and I wanted to have this posted by then but Joey had to stay later at school and you know how life goes...

Anyways hope y'all had a great time & maybe one day I'll get to one...
Here's this months tutorial:

You'll need 4 different colors of fabric (one of which you'll be getting in the mail and you can use it as a reference to gather coordinating fabric/scraps)

You'll then cut (3) 2 1/2 inch squares of fabric 1
and (2) 2 1/2'' x 6 1/2'' rectangles of fabric 1

 and (3) 2 1/2 inch square of fabric 2
(2) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles of fabric 2

 Then you'll need (2) 2 1/2" squares of fabric 3
along with (2) 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles of fabric 3

& then (1) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangle of fabric 4 (the one I'm sending)

Sew together (1) 2 1/2" square of fabric 1 with (2) 2 1/2" square of fabric 2 (one on each side)
then take your 2 rectangles of fabric 2 and add to each side to make the cobblestone

Repeat vice versa to get the second cobblestone

Press seams open

Add the fabric 3 squares to the ends of your 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangle
then sew the remaining rectangles on each side
 You should now have this:

Then sew it all together:

** You could put the striped material I'm sending in the middle of the cobblestones too. Have fun with it:) & thanks in advance!!!

Just in Time...

Here you go Emilee! I think this was one of my favorites to make. There is something therapeutic about just going with the flow! P.S. In this picture the grays tend to have a dark blueish look. It's not, it's darker gray.

Pinwheels Finished!

I finished the binding last night!
I love it so much! Thank you all so much for making these beautiful squares!

I finally got over my fear of machine quilting and finished it Saturday morning. I was so excited to get it out again and the quilting went much better after honing my skills all these months! :)

I'll try to post more detailed pics soon but for now, thank you lovely ladies!

This square made my head hurt.
The on-purpose angles does not bode well with my love of order...
and there might be too much green-- but here's my contribution Emilee.
PS- I got the second package today.  Those crazy postal workers!  :)

emilee -

your square was way fun! Is it okay if I keep it? ;)

a LONG time coming

Between packing up our Arkansas house, moving, unpacking, puting a house together, vacationing, and general summer business with 4 kids...my quilt blocks (from March) got put on the back burner...actually they weren't even on the stove until 2 weeks ago. I also knew I wanted to add 8 more squares...taking more time than I had. During one quiet Sunday afternoon, I finished the 8 extra squares and today I finished the sashing. I must say, it's wild, crazy and very bold...just the way I like it. Thanks ladies for your contributions!! Can you find your square in there? Now I just need to find a mellow back and binding and actually do the quilting. It just might get done in the next few weeks.

My Bottled Rainbow Addiction!

Back when Kristin started her rainbows, I took advantage of a sale at JoAnn's and got a pile of kona solids that have since sat in my stash.

After doing Becca's square, I got excited to start on my own!

I also love these squares because I've been adding a few pieces from my mom's stash-so far each square has a bit of her in it too!
This was my first one. The directions say to baste around the edge of the color to hold down the batting but I found just pinning it worked better for me.
As you can see, I used batting on each square like the original directions from from stitched in color. I thought I'd try it, and I love it!!! I love the dimension it gives to the ticker tape pieces. I still have my doubts about how thick it's going to be at each seam between squares but we'll see.

Right now, I love it! And I cut out pieces for five more last night!

Caught up!

Jen should have this by now, but I thought I'd post.
It took me awhile to get motivated and unintimidated to do this after missing the quilting get together, but once I got started I made a game out of using as much of the scraps as possible and really enjoyed it:)
July's block for Emily Sig!  When can I bring it by?  Miss you LOTS btw!!!!

coins in the mail

I'm lovin' all the stacked coin squares! Thanks everyone!

here are three that I've received, but that the sender didn't post a picture of. I shouldn't be the only one to enjoy them! (sorry for the not-great photos - there's surprisingly little sunlight at midnight!)

So far...

I started on mine this morning and wanted to post it so you can see the idea. It's not done yet but I'm waiting for more fabric I ordered to show up in my mailbox. Yes. That's right. I ordered fabric. I'm officially a quilter, I guess. :)

Happy August to Me!

So I can't believe how far I've come. In January I remember dreading the first block, no offense Liz. :) I am not a fabulous seamstress and didn't have the passion for fabric that you all amazing quilters have. February was about the same. March and April I started getting the hang of it and actually feeling proud of my finished product. And now it's August and it's my turn and would you know that I actually sought out a fabric store when I was on vacation in North Carolina?! My husband says if my fabric stash starts to resemble my yarn stash, he's going to turn me in to the experts on Hoarders. I say we just need a bigger house. :)

I digress, for my month I chose a quilt similar to Becca's but with a different technique. It's this mosaic-type quilt (although this example is a pillow) and will be draped on the back of our sofa. I will be sending you 2 pieces of fabric: One is the piece that I want you to use in the mosaic as much as you want and coordinate the other pieces with and the other is the home dec fabric I'm using to cover our ottoman and make 2 lumbar pillows for the sofa. You'll see that the color scheme in our living room is icy blue, gray, tan, taupey-brown, and other different shades of blue. And I wouldn't hate it if you threw a bit of bright green in there either; it'd definitely go. Anyways, so the home dec piece will just be tiny to give you more ideas of color scheme but don't want you to use it in the square because it's not the right weight. I want the sashing to be white and the square to be 12"x12". Hope this makes sense! I'll be sending out the fabric tomorrow. Thanks all!

Wanted: Someone Who Will Volunteer to Press My Seams

Is it just me or does anyone else wish pressing seams wasn't a necessary part of quilting? I loathe it. In the MTC I used to watch my companion in awe as she pressed her shirts to perfection. Mine, on the other hand, might have looked better before I tried pressing them.

But Emily: Thanks for switching months with me and for choosing a fun and pretty easy square which made it possible for me to finish both the June and July squares. Can't wait to see how these all look together.
