12squared twin blankets!

We've had a number of babies born in our group over the past three years that are wrapped in some of our beautiful quilts, I'm sure!
However, when one of our fearless leaders announced she was having twins, we thought we should get together and do something!
My Mom and I found a simple and lovely square (c/o Red Pepper Quilts: Liberty Nine Patch) that we thought everyone would have scraps for and contacted three years worth of quilters.  Thanks so much to all who contributed! We just got word that Becca received the quilts and loved them! Success!! (and we expect a follow up post with Charlotte and Tess on their 12squared blankets!)

We asked for colorful, Becca-like squares and we got the perfect variety!

We backed each quilt with Bonnie and Camille's Sundae prints, which we knew she liked!
I wanted to do a neat graphic with everyone's names printed over the top of this picture but I'll list the squares' owners below instead.

Something Wonky This Way Comes

Loved this pattern, Emily!  It was a lot of fun to do.  I hope I did it right.  For some reason, my blocks look really big... and the wonky part might be more how rippled the solid fabric ended up than the crooked "trunks", but hopefully, it will work with your quilt.
Can't wait to see this all put together!

Not a quilt but a bag

I saw this bag while looking for some luggage for upcoming trip. After this, all I could think was must have canvas bag: bright, bold & simple canvas bag. But I am not paying 200+ for a bag. So I did what any half crazy woman does...I made my own.
(the Inspiration)
This is the prototype. I should have probable started with ugly material because it is so not perfect. But it served it's purpose and the next bags, for the kids will be perfect!
I love how the bag above is standing so perfect...I think they must have a cardboard liner.
Mine is stuffed with a kid...yup. Ruby is in there!
Maud wanted in too but Ruby wouldn't scoot over!
I may or may not have tested all the kids in it...for weight purposes.
This bag can hold at least 50 pounds! Perfect!
So what would I do different?
1. Tabs on the end of the zipper. Make zipper easier.
2. Thinking about eliminating pelon fleece. Just not sure it needs it? Your Thoughts?
3.  Use all purpose thread. The heavy duty ended up a little wonky inside.
I just could not get the tension right.
4. Add 2 inches on the width so I don't end up running over zipper.
Anyhow. There you go. I love it. Just wish it was perfect!!!

Well, off to clean my house and apparently my kid just used the 'outdoor' bathroom for #2. JOY.

Feather Finale!

So sorry this is as late as it is, Teriney.
If it makes you feel any better, most of it was done on my new machine, so the stitches are nice and even.
However, I'm afraid that the final measurements of my block will not match up to the others-- just a suspicion.
If it is, let me know and I'll make a do-over.

wonky is such a great word...and pattern

cousin emily- it was so great to think of you while pulling and arranging my scraps for you.  this pattern was so fun and I learned a lot- sewing wonky fabric together is exactly how it sounds- wonky!  I was much better the second time around (see yellow square).  I cannot wait to see this quilt when it's complete.  I hope you like them!  I think I will be able to get them sent off today.

wonky scrappy strips - MARCH!!!

Here is my square for March...

Bright Birch Trees by Crazy Mom Quilts

I have already mailed your fabric (2 solid 15.5" squares) and the tutorial.  You should be receiving them very soon.

All you need is a bunch of small rectangular scraps.  Let me know if you need some!

thanks!
emily

here's the square I made:

(I purchased the pattern and I don't think the designer would appreciate me posting the instructions on our blog.  But if someone is interested, the pattern can be found here)

...Flock Together!

First of all. CONGRATULATIONS, BECCA and BILLY! Woo Hoo!
Welcome to the world, baby girls!

Here is my feather for you, Teriney. I hope you like it. I lost my part "D" and had to improvise... I think it worked out. I wonder when I will find it.
Sewing rooms get kind of scary! It was fun.
Thanks for the updated instructions. Very helpful!

I also finished up 2 tops that I had put together either in 2011 or 2012! They are made from a stack of squares that my Grandma Grace (born in 1900) had made. I have had them for years and years and finally put them together into 2 lap quilts. Well, utilizing my famous "stitch in the vicinity of the ditch" technique, they are both done! I LOVE snuggling in them on the sofa or on my bed. I've chosen a view of each, with one that includes my favorite square: "Ride 'em Cowboy!"
My kids are already fighting over them...
"Can I have these when you are done with them (ie. DEAD)?"

Grandma Grace actually made a lot of mistakes with these squares. I think she was getting old when she made them. I love the mistakes and irregularities. I also love the crazy combinations she chose when piecing the squares together! Yes, our old clothes are represented here very well!

birds of a feather

My mom tells me that when I was a little kid, I ran into the house, out of breath, and asked her for some tape.  When she asked what it was for, I told her I had found a feather and needed to re-attach it to the bird who lost it.  A good idea difficult to carry out, indeed.

I guess Teriney and I are birds of a feather because I was going to pick this design for March!  That's how much I love it.

If it helps... I sewed my 2" strips in a stairstep, staggering them by 1.5" to get the diagonal seams and use less fabric.  (This was after sewing them aligned on one edge, cutting it, and then realizing the seams were horizontal)

I may have to make her another one since I have extra 2" strips.

Thank you for choosing 12squared... enjoy your flight!

Wicked web

Yes, for me it was wicked.

I just finished it and had to just post the dang thing.  I've noticed a few flaws of layout and alignment (as usual), but I'm happy with the finished product nonetheless.  I hope you like it Jen!

Thank you all for including me in this group.  Best wishes with the new year and new direction!

Finish it Up February!

I finally finally finished my Bottled Rainbows quilt!
I have been scared to quilt that thing for a while now but got up the courage with my mom's new walking foot! It made all the difference in the world.  Plus we repinned the whole thing so it would be more secure.  We have decided we don't like basting spray.  We're all about the pins!

So here she is! I'm thrilled with how it turned out!
