double hourglasses for mardie

This block was so fun!  Polka dots- did you expect anything else?!  Making two sets of black was not my intention but it's what I ended up with in the end so there ya go! ; )  I'll have these in the mail sometime next week.

Scrappy square for Liz

What a great square! This will look fabulous when they are all together... in scrappy goodness!

Love, Mom

around the world in 26 days

here's my June square!  it was really fast and kinda fun to rip seams intentionally.  I hope you like it, Liz!

trip around the world

Liz- I was all tripped up over choosing fabrics for this one!  Not quite sure why it was so agonizing...maybe it was a little too much freedom for me. ; )  I hope you like it but if it's not quite what you had in mind I am happy to give it another shot.  I'd never done any quilting like this before so it was fun to try!

Scrappy D

Camie,
I sure I hope this is right. I am sorry this has been so late. I hope it has not delayed any of your summer picnicking. I really enjoyed the square!
...Here is to getting my sewing groove back on.
For the record I finished Emily S square too but forgot to take a picture.
Hugs my friends,
Teriney

This is my Brain on Fabric...

Lately, I have been obsessed with my quilting. I have FINISHED a few projects that were really fun & I am happy with how they turned out. I have a reason to have been so driven to get some of the things done. Here he is!
Elder Sam Tobler came home from his mission on the 8th of June! It is wonderful to have him home!
Oh! We also have been busy with family. Grace and Jason and Clark came to visit the day before Sam came home. So, here is a picture of all of the grandchildren!
 Solomon (J&T), Jonas (J&MM), Maud (J&T), Megan (E&W), Ruby & Hazel (J&T), Lucy (E&W), Clark (G&J), Everett, Christian & Eden (J&MM)... cute, right?
So, for a few weeks, I have been driven to get a few things done, anticipating losing my sewing room, aka., formerly known as Sam's room. I have taken over the "kid's room". I re-did this wicker chair: the pillows are made from more quilt blocks from 2011 and '12.  Elizabeth folded all of my fabric to look really nice on the bookshelf behind the chair.

I also finished my "sampler quilt".
The backing and binding are from "happy-go-lucky" by bonnie & camille for Moda. Love, love the backing.
Have you seen these birds at "The Stitch'in Post"? I made some with fabric that I brought home from Hawaii. Now I need a good stick or 2 and make a mobile. You can find the pattern on line at: www.spoolsewing.com (Mister Blue Bird by Michael Fulkerson.)
Wait! There is more. (I told you my brain was on "fabric")
When my mother in law was here in February, she and I took a class at the "Stitch'in Post. (Highly recommended.) The pattern is a "Carpenter's Star". I had found a large  bag of "Farmer John's Mini Market" fat quarters by Paintbrush Studio. Patterns of tiny fruits and vegetables. So cute! We each made one. I finished mine with "Bella" black and  "Cherry on Top" in green and red by Keiki for Moda. (Now to finish hers.)
I made this picture  larger so you could see the peaches, yellow, red & green peppers, blueberries, cherries, artichokes, red peppers.
I guess I'll go upstairs and finish Liz's square.
(Remember, girls. I have NO small children at home, I don't work outside the home, AND I have been OBSESSED!)

June: Scrappy Trip Around the World, Here We Come!

Hi friends!
I've been eyeing this design for a while! So we are going to do the scrappy trip around the world block using the Quiltville tutorial, here.

You can follow the link or my instructions below. It will make a 12x12 square.

Start by cutting six 2.5" x 16.5" strips.  Please make one of the strips kona white (bottom strip in the picture)
Choose fabrics that will have nice contrast between lights and darks and stick with smaller patterns like below. Ask if you have any questions choosing fabrics!
Sew your strips together, starting with the white and making sure the last fabric contrasts well with the white.
 Press seams every other direction.
Sew your six strips in half, creating a tube.
Square up one of your ends.  Cut the strips into 2.5" strips to create six tubes.
Use your seam ripper to open your tubes, staring with the seam next to the white, placing the white in the bottom.  Open each tube in succession to create a pattern like below.
 Sew strips together.
Press flat and your done! It came together quickly and I think it will be so fun together!!

Finally Strung Together

Camie, I'm so sorry I am so tardy finishing this!
What a fun block. I hope this fits in with your other squares!
It will be on your way this week!

xoxo,
Liz

Ian's whales

I think I burned myself out on quilting when I made 10 in one year.  I've had to take a little break.

This is a quilt for my nephew, Ian, that was born in November. Does the pattern look familiar?  How cute is this whale fabric?

and how cute is this kid?

Now I just gotta meet him.

June is coming!

Update: I'm at work today, but here's the pattern I'd like to do.  I've always been a sucker for a trip around the world, but this one is 12x12 block friendly! :)  The link takes you to the printer friendly tutorial that we will basically be following.  I'll be back with my example and tutorial tomorrow!!

I know, I know, it's already here!
But the tutorial is coming! I just got my sewing machine back from the repair shop on Tuesday, so I hope to get this figured out tomorrow!  Sorry for the delay!!
