Machine Talk

My dear sewing machine has been having problems of late.  I'm considering trading it in.  But, before I completely give up on it, I am wondering how often you take your machine in to be tuned up or repaired-- maybe the frequency of problems I've been having are just par for the course?  And, I'm also wondering what kind of machine you have.  What do you like and dislike about your machine?

I think this question has been posted before on the blog, but I know some of you have gotten new machines recently.  Currently, I've got a Brother Pacesetter ULT2002D.  It is an embroidery machine.  There are a lot of things I like about it, but I rarely use the embroidery features.  I would like a solid machine that I can quilt on and sew clothes.

Any suggestions?

  1. I have an Elna. I would have to look at it to tell you the model number so let me know if you want it. I have owned it for 12 years and have not have one problem with it and have never taken it in to be serviced. I have never had to adjust the tension or anything! Talk about a miracle machine. It was expensive but I would say well worth the cost because I wouldn't have a clue how to deal with a finicky machine. I traded in two machines and paid extra to get a floor model at the recommendation of the salesperson at the store who happened to own 3 sewing/vacuum stores and was a tailor.

  2. Mine is a brother. I love it! It makes me happy. If I had unlimited funds I would probable go with babylock or bernina. But alas my machine still rocks. I bought mine from Kens sewing and vaccumn on ebay.

  3. I just got a Janome 8077 for Christmas. It has been fabulous, granted I haven't done a whole lot with it yet. My Mother-in-law did a lot of research on it for my husband and said "it will be perfect what Amy does." I have been very pleased with the few projects I have done.

  4. I have my grandma's Bernina from the 60's and it still works beautifully but it does need to be tuned occasionally. I have had it in twice in the thirteen years I've had her, and other than that, she feels like my mom's much newer Bernina, without all the electronic fancy buttons! :)

  5. So, you know now that I have a Bernina. I used to have Liz's grandma's Pfaff. I LOVE my Bernina. It is a 1230. I bought it refurbished at least 19 years ago! and it has been wonderful. I have had it serviced probable three times in that time. (It has never had the work out that it is having currently though.) It is really due to go in, but I just can't be parted with it. I think I will ask for a loaner! Do they do that? Actually, it would likely do me good to stay out of the sewing room for a bit. I don't know how I will deal with the withdrawal though!
