Jennie's square

Here you go. Had fun embroidering even though it looks like a child's handwriting. The embroidery hoop took me back to like 4th grade. :)

My latest "quilt"

April is my official catch-up month this year! I'm catching up on baby presents, projects and other such sewing tasks that are creating guilt! :)

My girlfriend at work LOVES sock monkeys and had a baby, oh, EIGHT months ago! Last night I finally finished her son's sock monkey shirt.

I used Angela Yosten's tutorial, found here. I love how it turned out!
Maybe not a quilt, but I definitely put my recently-acquired applique skills to work!

Ryli's Birthday Quilt

Oh Man. I literally threw this quilt together in about a week. I am so happy with the way it turned out!
I found the basic braid pattern here at Moda Bake Shop. I only had one jelly roll so I ended up with only 6 braids, and the recipe yields 7. Fortunately our local quilt shop had 5 prints from the line so I was able to improv a border.
I used a vintage sheet for the back...which I'll get pictures of as soon as I get my camera back. (which Nikon has confirmed should be Friday at the latest!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I experimented a bit with a different batting and used safety pins to sandwich as opposed to the basting spray. With Ty's I used Warm and White off the bolt and with Ry's it was just a natural 100% cotton packaged batting. Pinning was certainly a lot more work and I had to do a lot more quilting (2-4" apart as opposed to 10" apart). I'm happier with the results of this quilt over Ty's, his is still pretty stiff.

I love the City Weekend line and plan to make a matching bedskirt next, then some new window panels.

Happy 8th Birthday to my Ryli!!

FINISHED!

I finally got this quilt finished up!  Thanks for all the suggestions.  You can see more pictures on my other blog Distance Makes, if you want.

PS-

don't forget to hand embroider your name on the square someplace.  i love the sweet heirlooms i have with initials stitched on them.  a perfect way to prick your memory of loved ones.

Lately

Since I'm much more in love with yummy wool yarn and needles than my sewing machine and fabric, here's what I'm working on lately...

some Spring-y tiny shorties for a babe that will soon be joining a friend's fam:

a complicated, yet fabulous tiny sweater for my nephew-to-be:

and my first attempt at socks for T for our 7th anniversary "wool" gift:

P.S. Sorry I'm a bad quilting club member; I'm just obsessed with knitting instead :)

Bottled Rainbows:Tangerine block, and a bonus

Introducing Tangerine...I'm almost finished with Buttercup, too!
Also, I decided to do a bonus square for Amy. I didn't love the 1st one, and I happened to get some perfect coordinates in the Scrap Swap!
So, what is everyone else working on?
I am feverishly trying to finish up a braid quilt for my almost 8 year, almost baptized, daughter. :(

A Square for Jennie!

Sorry about the low quality camera shot!

I love the fabrics you chose! so soothing. It's funny how even though I was making it for you, I definitely arranged the fabric layout to favor my favorite fabrics (I'm a sucker for polka dots)!

Enjoy Jennie!

Baby Quilt

We have a favorite Pre-K teacher who happens to be having her first grand baby this month. I thought a baby quilt was in order. I pieced together the front back and then Kathie caught wind of the project and wanted in. 2 of her kids have had this same teacher. So she machine quilted and bound it.
Mrs. Thompson loved it! In fact she shed a few tears, so I know she REALLY loved it.

Call for Help!

I have been working on this Dresden Plate quilt for years.  It was a project I started with the help of my mother-in-law and now, with all the quilting inspiration that is happening on this blog, I feel the push to finish it up.
I'm almost finished, but I'm stumped on how to finish the centers of the plates.  I first thought to make yo-yos, then switched to simple circles.  Either way, I'm can't decide what kind of fabric to use.  Solid white? Solid color?  Multiple colors?  Print?  What do you think?
I'm in serious need of some good advice!  Please help!
