I am a huge copycat. When I see something I like, that's exactly what I want. When I saw the quilt my extremely talented cousin Emily made for her nephew I tried my best to copy it (couldn't find the exact fabrics dang it) and even made one for my own nephew who is turning 1 next month. I wish I had taken the time to applique his name like Emily did and embellish the border like she did! Here it is:

I did it! I did it! I did it!
Phew! I was very nervous while putting this block together. I just knew I was going to sew something together wrong as well. But I guess being super nervous can be a good thing, triple checking everything, laying it out exactly like on the instructions, etc. Because it worked! I am so excited! What a beautiful block you chose, Emily!

February Ribbon Star
Yay! I made my first square! I put it all together and was ironing it and then noticed that I laid it out wrong. All wrong. And my heart sank because I was using my scraps from my yellow bin and had used them up 100% and couldn't go back and replace the two inner parallelograms on the left. I can redo it, Emily, but I'll need more squares or maybe I can find the same gray and white at the quilt store. Such an embarrassing first start to my virtual quilting bee! I was really pleased with how it turned out though. For a beginning quilter, my corners lined up pretty good.
Starry starry ribbon: February

february ribbon star
Here it is! This was a fun block to make and got me back into the spirit of quilting. It looked intimidating but it really wasn't so bad even after sewing on the top left corner three times (yes three!) because I kept sewing it on the wrong way. You have to be incredibly talented to do that. I hope you like it, Em!
