12squared twin blankets!

We've had a number of babies born in our group over the past three years that are wrapped in some of our beautiful quilts, I'm sure! 

However, when one of our fearless leaders announced she was having twins, we thought we should get together and do something! 

My Mom and I found a simple and lovely square (c/o Red Pepper Quilts: Liberty Nine Patch) that we thought everyone would have scraps for and contacted three years worth of quilters.  Thanks so much to all who contributed! We just got word that Becca received the quilts and loved them! Success!! (and we expect a follow up post with Charlotte and Tess on their 12squared blankets!)

 We asked for colorful, Becca-like squares and we got the perfect variety!

 We backed each quilt with Bonnie and Camille's Sundae prints, which we knew she liked!

 I wanted to do a neat graphic with everyone's names printed over the top of this picture but I'll list the squares' owners below instead.

Finish It January: December's Block, Just a Month Late

So, here's something I learned about myself... my paper piecing skills have not improved since the last Spider Web block we did.

Paper piecing and me, just don't get along.

But, dear Jen, it is finished.  Maybe you can stick it in a corner or something.

Oh, and here's a link to a quilt I made and posted on my personal blog this month for a good friend.

But, since, it's Finish It January, I thought I should put it here for the record.

A couple projects

  Here are a couple of the projects I completed!  

I made this little quilt for a neighbor.

Her little man was only 2lbs.! 

I had a ton of fun making this one and it was my first time attempting free motion quilting.

It is far from perfect but I was proud of it.

I made this one for my little Ezra baby.

I couldn't manage to get a picture of it without my children on it. 

Luckily they make good models

even if they aren't dressed for the day (and it's 3 p.m.).  

His big brother is a little envious of it.

Jen, I worked on your square today.  

As you know things are slow going around here.

So hopefully it gets done soon.

my nephew's quilt top and december block

My brother is going to have his first baby in a few months so this will be for my soon-to-be nephew (my SIL requested gray and navy).

This is for Jen.  I love the happy colors and the selvages she sent me were fun to work with.  I hope you  like it!  Thanks, Jen for the selvages!!!

I was so inspired that I found some nice, generic white in my stash and made a baby blanket for my niece's new baby girl. I bordered and backed it with "Lovely" by Sandy Gervais for Moda. 

One more thing... Please get those gorgeous Christmas squares in the mail so I can make my Christmas quilt in time for Christmas cuddling!

The Haylie Lott Esq. Quilt

Teriney whipped up this shiz on a moment's notice for a co-worker of her husband's baby shower. Husband was trying to make a chocolate cream pie and then he was trying to make some Boston Creams, but we lacked the ingredients to make almost anything substantial as far as a dessert was concerned. So, Teriney asked him, "How good of a friend is this?" "She's a good friend. We've tried jury trials together, she's plotted with me and she stands as a reference for me theoretically, were any job to actually decide to proceed to that point." Husband texted the friend to ask what colors were in the nursery. "Yellow walls, navy, khaki and brown."

That was at 8:30pm. The quilt was finished at 1:00 and it was bound the next morning.

Teriney had a thrilling tour of The Capitol Building with ARVA set for 11:00, so husband met her at The Capitol Building and he cut the extra strings off at his office.

The quilt was well received. They appeared to like it, and they said it was his first blanket.

I finished some projects! Woo Hoo!

Here are a few things I have actually FINISHED... nothing like being sick to get some "homey" things done! This is a quilt that I made for my daughter-in-law, Maria Mae. 

She is expecting twins next month!

Here is the back.

I used a Moda line, "Sophie" by Chez Moi. I love the line. I machine quilted it using a technique that I like to call "stitching in the vicinity of the ditch"!

Below is the binding. I tried it for the first time. It is one that Emily Sigler uses and is much better at. But, I'm happy with my first attempt. I love how it makes it's own "piping".

This small afghan is for Baby 'B", one of the twins. He or she is smaller than Baby "A". But it will be plenty big for him/her.

I have made 4 of these. Finished 2. Given away 1. I made them for my 4 granddaughters (as of fall 2011). They each have the same center design and fabrics. But the borders and bindings are different, same fabrics, different order. The back looks like the picture below, with a different color (matching one the borders from the other side) and a yellow stripe.  They are all getting one for their birthday. Megan's was February 2nd, Ruby's is the 29th. Megan's was a real success. Hope they all like them. 

This is last year's FIRST "square" in "Trading Pieces". I liked it so much, I kept going, making row after row of zig zags! I made them into a quilt for my grandkids to snuggle under. I "quilted" it with a giant stitch using embroidery floss. 

I loved the robot fabric that Marnita used in her zig zag that I used it for the backing. What a fun project this was.

I'm sorry to post so much. I am just so excited that I actually FINISHED some projects, I wanted to share. Now I don't have so many "tops" in my basket. You know how it is, you have all this fabric... you make some really great "tops"... then they all sit in a basket waiting for finishing. (Thereby moving fabric from one pile to another!) Well, I got some finished! Yippee! (Not that I am glad I was sick. But there is this bright side!)

  I started one for my nephew, Sam, who turned 10 a few weeks ago (and is into extreme sports).  

 I have a lot of zig-zagging to do!  and I need to buy some backing.

I think it's time for some circles or curves.

oh, and some stacked coins.  ;)

Baby Quilt

We have a favorite Pre-K teacher who happens to be having her first grand baby this month. I thought a baby quilt was in order. I pieced together the front back and then Kathie caught wind of the project and wanted in. 2 of her kids have had this same teacher. So she machine quilted and bound it.

Mrs. Thompson loved it! In fact she shed a few tears, so I know she REALLY loved it.

for Major

we have some friends in AZ, they're the kind of friends that we don't see, or talk to very often, but when we do see them, it feels like no time has passed. except for the small fact that we have usually added a few children to the mix. kinda funny. anyway, the kidds just added another one. with my new love for quilt making, i thought i would send a little love their way...and because i just adore major's mama.

i used denyse schmidt's hope valley and kona white. i backed with a soft white minky (no pics, sorry). the letters were tricky, but the perfect addition, i think!

Completed Random Baby Quilts

I volunteered sometime last year to make quilts for the new babies in our church. It has been fun! I'd like to say that out of the 5 I have made so far, I have loved all of them, but one may or may not have turned out...'interesting' (to say the least). These are the last 3 that I quilted.

They are little quilts.

I had fun with this 'blue' quilt. I used only blue shaded fabric & then quilted each square different. I think only 2 of the fabrics repeated. I really liked it!

I find it a fantastic & challenging way to use scraps...

You should try it too!

I know this is not a quilt but I had fun sewing this little gem!

(and the kids kinda cute too)
