baby quilt

My sister-in-law requested these colors for her soon-to-be born baby boy.
I needed something quick and easy.

disappearing nine patch

Here's a nice upside down pic of the blocks for Emolyn.  I am not quite sure why sometimes my pictures get turned around on the blog.  This turned out to much easier than I thought! :)  Sorry for the delay.

This was fun and out-of-the-ordinary.  Hope you like it.

cock your head for this one

It was upright when I uploaded it!
Emily- I loved this.  Everything you touch turns to gold and I enjoyed this pattern.  I need a new project to work on so I might just be a copy cat AGAIN and start one for myself.  Maybe even the same fabrics.  Because I don't fall in love with my projects as much as I do yours. :)

merry christmas!

I hope you like it, Amy!
I noticed while taking the picture that the base is slightly slanted.  I am up for a re-do if you'd like me to give it a second shot.  I thought it was perfectly straight before I started sewing. :)

oregon forest

Here it is- and I LOVE it.  My husband said it is his very favorite of all the quilts I've ever made.  It's a keeper.  Thank you, everyone, for helping me!

loved this block

So quick and easy!

baby quilt

I wanted a quick and easy baby quilt for a friend having her first boy after three girls.  She told me the colors she wanted.  I just noticed the picture is upside down. :)  My sister is having her fifth baby in June so I'll be finishing up that one very soon.

I'm Camie

I'm Camie.  I've been married to a great guy for 15 years.  We have four kids ranging from almost 14 down to 6- three girls then a boy- they are fun kids and definitely keep me on my toes.  We've lived in California, Missouri, Pennsylvania and now we're in Oregon to stay.  I love trying new recipes and adding to my cooking blog called Pass the Peas, Please.
I NEVER thought I'd sew after the lessons my mom forced me to take in middle school.  Her machine was impossible to use.  Sew and iron.  Sew and iron.  Such a bore!!  A really cute, young mom at church moved into our ward and taught quilting at enrichment one month.  After seeing what she could do with fabric I was hooked.  That was 15 years ago.  When my mom learned I was quilting she didn't believe it.  I have my cousin Emily to thank for getting me involved in 12squared!
Other than that, I go to the gym everyday to keep sane,  spend a lot of time working on primary stuff (I just reached my one year milestone of primary president at church) and shuttle kids around town. I love Oregon summers and look forward to time spent on the lake with my family or a really nice sunny day on the coast which is an hour away (those days are rare on the Oregon coast so you have to take advantage when they come).
Life is great.

The kids are on vacation all this week and next week, which means I have time to sew without feeling guilty.  No errands to run, no music lessons, no homework checking, aah, it's heaven.  So, I made up Camie's blocks.  They were so quick and easy, I didn't make any mistakes.  So I made up a fifth block! :)  I am picturing this quilt in my head, and think it will be very stunning and modern.  Can't wait to see it in person!

pine tree block

Hi ladies-
Thank you for helping me make this quilt. When I saw it I knew I wanted to have one for myself.  It seems very Oregon-inspired to me (found here):

My quilt will be slightly different because it will have all grey trees (again, Pacific Northwest inspired and will look great in my bedroom hung over a chair where you can look out the window and see plenty of pine trees).  I was hoping for different shades of grey but alas my Joanns only carries one true grey and in one shade.  I may need to shop around.

I am planning on using a beautiful grey/ecru fabric with doves that my cousin Emily (in this group) used in one of her quilts.  I am so happy to incorporate it and use it as the backing and in a quilt she'll be helping to make!

To make the blocks perfectly uniform, I'm going to have you paper piece the triangle block and make four of them for me.  I have already made all the trunks using strips of fabric which was super fast and easy so I didn't see the point in each of you taking the time to paper piece those pieces.

I'm going to need the addresses of our newcomers so I can send them their fabrics and pattern. I'll send those out asap. (I am sending a little extra fabric for everyone only because I've made mistakes on previous quilt blocks and have had to have people send me extra fabric...oops!)

Here's the tutorial:

This is the template you'll use to make the triangle block.

You'll place the gray fabric under the white paper template.

Place the ecru fabric under the gray at an angle so when you sew the line between 1 & 2 then press the ecru fabric open, the entire area 2 will be covered.  You might want to check to see if it will cover the area as seen in the next picture.

Here I've folded the ecru fabric so I am certain that when I sew on the line then iron open the area will be covered.

Sew on the line back-stitching at the beginning and at the end, please.  Fold over the white paper.  You'll be using the white paper as a guide to trim 1/4" edge as you'll see in the next picture.

Using your ruler, trim so there's a 1/4" seam allowance.

Iron open.

Now you're ready to tackle the other side.  Place the ecru under the grey so that when you sew the line between 1 & 3 then iron open, the cream will cover the entire area.

Sew on the line, back-stitching at the beginning and end, please.

Fold the paper back and trim at 1/4" seam allowance.

Iron open.

Using the white paper as a guide, trim around the paper.

You're almost there.
Turn your paper over.

Remove the paper from the fabric.  You'll be glad you back-stitched so you don't pull any of your stitches out.

You did it!

Since I knew I could use strips of fabric instead of paper piecing the trunks I went ahead and made all the trunks. (For my future reference, I used 1" strip of brown and two 2 1/4" strips of cream.  I cut across the strips at 2 1/4".)  I'll attach them to the four triangles you send me.

Tree in 2 pieces.

Finished tree!

If I missed anything please let me know!
XOXO,
Camie

As you can see, the main blog itself has not been updated with our new information.
I will get that done when I learn how! I also need to find out how to give the new members access to the blog. But, for now, this should get us started for 2016!

Thank you!

my beautiful 12squared quilt

I absolutely adore my 2015 quilt.  I finished it on Saturday and plan to take it to the lake today for a picnic- just what it was intended for!
Thank you  to everyone who contributed!!
Camie

No matter how I photograph it I just can't get a close-up of each block; I am sorry.  This seemed to be the best way to get a good feel for this quilt.  I do love it and it makes me happy to look at.  I did have to trim and adjust because a lot of the blocks were different sizes but the result is exactly what I wanted!  Thanks again.

block C for amy

This was really fun to make and I can't wait to see the quilt when it's finished.  I hope you like the fabrics.  Fabric selection is always a little nerve-racking.  I hope Peter Rabbit is one of your favorites because the third from the top screams Peter Rabbit. :)

one red square

I'm sorry there's only one block, Mardie.  The stripes on my second block were sewn so that they are horizontal, not vertical.  Would you mind sending me two 2 1/2" squares of mums & stripes fabrics?  Then I will finish the second.  My husband took my kids camping last night and even with a perfectly quiet house without any distractions I still managed to orient those wrong.  I'm sorry!

I hope you like it, Amy!  It was a great block to make.

Scrappy cabin

This was a fun square! I'm catching up!! I have to admit that some of the instructions didn't seem to quite match the picture. I would get confused whether it was supposed to be 1.5 or two. Oh and the dark orange is orange, not red!

This will be a fun quilt!

baby brooksby's quilt

I made this quilt for a friend who is due in July with her 5th and final baby.  I met this friend when we both lived in PA and now we both live in the same town on the opposite side of the country, our husbands working for the same practice.  Who'd have ever guessed that would've happened?
