Good Fortune for Emily

I'm excited to get back in the "square"! However, my blogging skills are extremely rusty! Thanks Emily, this was the perfect square to get me going again!

Some finished works

No, I haven't finished the block for Emily yet.  I mean, it's still way too early in the month for that. :)  But I did take a few photos of some things I made for, and during Christmas.

The first one is a little tree skirt for my youngest daughter's mini tree in her room.  She chose the fabric from my stash, and then I got to work.

I used my Dresden template and quilted it with a simple swirl pattern. 

I am really happy with how it turned out, and it gave me the courage to try an even bigger one for our tree. But I didn't buy enough seam binding to go all the way around, so that was set aside for a bit.

I also made a fabric Christmas tree, including decorations.  Good thing, too, since we didn't get our real tree until the week of Christmas.  This way, the kids still had a spot to put their presents they made at school.

After Christmas I needed to make a quilt and pillow for Alexandra's new doll, Molly, and her new bed.  Fortunately, I had a fat quarter of material that already looked like it was pieced together.  So then I just added batting and Minky for the back, and quilted it with a simple cross-hatch pattern, following what was already printed on the material.  She is very pleased.  And it coordinates perfectly with the quilt and pillow we made earlier for Emily.

That was the best fat quarter bundle I ever purchased. :)


Naturally I also found some time to quilt for me.  I sewed a few more heart blocks and then assembled them into a quilt top.

  But I decided at the last minute to add a tiny black and white border, and naturally I ran out of the right black.  So while that is being sent through the post, I used the odd blocks to make a small wall hanging for my friend. 

Hmm, don't know how to flip that around,  Oh well.  I am really pleased with how it turned out, and can't wait to get the big one finished the same way!

And just for fun, I took some photos of these adorable Santa's my former neighbor made for us one year.  There are actually 7, one for each of us, but the kids have hidden them all over the house, and these are the only ones I could round up for a photoshoot.

They are seriously so cute!  And they are just big enough to hide a mandarin orange and a few nuts. I love them, and am now on a hunt to find the pattern so I can make more.

It looks like it's sort of a log cabin square, but not quite.  Unfortunately she moved away so I can't just ask her. If I ever find it, it may turn into my block of the month. :)

Modern cross is in the mail!

I have embarrassingly had one of these finished for a bit and just finally finished the other and took pics but they are signed, sealed and in the mail!! I hope you enjoy them and I am sorry that they are so tardy!!

I did do a bit of sewing over Christmas. I may or may not have assisted Santa in refurbishing these American girl doll trundles that were handed down to us and just needed new pillows and quilts. My girls LOVE them and are constantly having sleepovers now!

My goal for tonight is to finally put beccas triangles in an envelope with a stamp because it's time to face it that the "I'll give them to her the next time I see her" plan is really failing miserably!! So sorry!

I am kind of in love with this pattern.  I can't stop thinking about how cool this looks and I'm 100% in awe of Emily for figuring out all the measurements.

yes, drill sergeant!

i finished a few things this last year- and i felt the red laser beams in a recent email so i thought i would get these out there.

i'm currently hand quilting a voile quilt. it's something that I've been collecting scraps and pieces for for a few years-

i can't seem to locate the full size picture of it, but i'll post as soon as it's finished. i used a wool batting, which is new for me, and so far i'm really loving the feel!

this one is for my youngest. i sent it off to be professionally quilted and didn't love the results. back to hand quilting for me :)

GRANNY SQUARES!!! so in love with this one. it's next on the "to be quilted" list. isn't it fab?!?! nice works, ladies!

this is one that i made for my mom for her birthday. i've had the entire collection of flea market fancy sitting on my shelf and it was calling to me.

i hand quilted the entire thing. i love the way it turned out. 

a baby blanket for a friend here in germany- i have another *noah* blanket in the works as well. 

just some pj pants for my littles. my almost teenager informed me that this would be the last year for matching pj bottoms....the end of an era. brat.

Happy New Year

I did not want to start 2015 out with 2014's work, but here it is and so I am.   Mardie, I am pleased to inform you that one Patriotic Star block is finally headed your way!  It was so easy to whip up and I can totally see this quilt being happy in your home.

And, in continuing the theme of this post, here's my Blue Ribbon Quilt from 2013 (*disclaimer* it did not actually win a ribbon of any color, especially blue).  It's been done for quite some time but I hadn't posted yet.  I LOVE the way it turned out and am still planning on getting the pattern into my Etsy shop... some day.

I always get excited at the start of a new year for 12 Squared.  I love seeing what you all come up with and having a platform to chit-chat-sewing-n-stuff.  If you've got some blocks from last year you're behind on, there's no time like the present!  Blow the lint off your machine and catch up so you can start 2015 off fresh!

January - Good Fortune

 Here goes 2015!

I fell in love with this quilt design (by Rashida Coleman-Hale) on Pinterest.  It's kind of a modified Arkansas Traveler.  But it's only available in a kit with fabric for $95.  Trust me, I even emailed the company!  So I had to improvise and pull out my pencil and ruler (yes, I'm THAT stubborn).  I have mailed the tutorial and gray background fabric.  This picture is my color inspiration (navy, dark orange, olive green, and white)...

Several days ago I had the idea that I ought to give myself a gift for Christmas and finish my 12squared 2014 quilt.  Just seconds ago I sewed the last stitch on the binding.  I absolutely love it!  Thank you to each of you for helping me with this quilt.  It was a lot of work but we did it!  As I topstitched I saw fabrics that I hadn't ever noticed before- it made topstitching fun! :)  Now onto 2015!!
