Phew! I was very nervous while putting this block together. I just knew I was going to sew something together wrong as well. But I guess being super nervous can be a good thing, triple checking everything, laying it out exactly like on the instructions, etc. Because it worked! I am so excited! What a beautiful block you chose, Emily!

February Ribbon Star
Yay! I made my first square! I put it all together and was ironing it and then noticed that I laid it out wrong. All wrong. And my heart sank because I was using my scraps from my yellow bin and had used them up 100% and couldn't go back and replace the two inner parallelograms on the left. I can redo it, Emily, but I'll need more squares or maybe I can find the same gray and white at the quilt store. Such an embarrassing first start to my virtual quilting bee! I was really pleased with how it turned out though. For a beginning quilter, my corners lined up pretty good.

february ribbon star
Here it is! This was a fun block to make and got me back into the spirit of quilting. It looked intimidating but it really wasn't so bad even after sewing on the top left corner three times (yes three!) because I kept sewing it on the wrong way. You have to be incredibly talented to do that. I hope you like it, Em!

When You Wish Upon a Ribbon Star
This one was hard to choose fabric for. I kept going to my stash favorites, but couldn't find the right compliments that would give this block that sort of 3-D look it's suppose to have.
So, this is what I settled on. I'm not sure it's the right shade of magenta (maybe too pink?), but I hope it works for you, Emily!
All that being said, this was a fun block! I have never been good at math or spacial reasoning, so the thought of someone coming up with a design like this, then figuring out the measurements and angles and everything amazes me.
Enjoy, Emily!

Becca

February's Ribbon Star
I found this ribbon star square on Pinterest and fell in love. Fortunately, it's not as hard as it looks! I mailed the tutorial yesterday as well as gray and white fabric. Please make the "ribbon" in yellow, aqua, or magenta/raspberry...
Here is a link to the original instructions. We're using two fabrics instead of 7-8 like in the above photo.
And let me know if you need more of either fabric (like if your dog eats some of it or *gasp* you make a mistake) :)
Can't wait to see my stars from my girls.

A Little Blog Business
Lovely Ladies of 12 Squared,
Teriney had the idea that we have a section on the blog for finished projects, to make it easier to find pictures of our quilts. I don't know how to do that. So, instead, I went through each and every post (all 423) and labeled them.
Yes, I'm OCD. No, I won't tell you how long it took. Yes, it feels very gratifying to have all the labels matching and in order.
I also added a search bar to the left sidebar. So, you can type in "Finished Projects" and it will pull up all the wonderful things we've finished. Mardie, Emily and Camie win the prize for most finished projects! You can also search by a quilter's name or pattern. It has been so fun to see all the blocks that this group has produced over the last three years. You should type in your name and see all the things you've made!
Now when you make a post, just be sure to add your name and the quilt pattern you're posting to the Labels section under Post Settings. And, if you're posting a finished project, just label it as such.
For example, if I'm posting a String Diamond for Camie, I'll label it:
Becca, String Diamond
I also added an email sign-up (just there to your left). If you'd like to get an email whenever there's a new post here, just enter your address in and you won't miss a thing!

On another note, we have a new quilter joining us! Please Welcome CINDY! She lives in Salt Lake City, is an ultimate crafter, designed my wedding announcements, AND she's been to the Austin Quilt Market. So, she's pretty much amazing. We will get her added to the schedule and email her address soon.
Can't wait to get started. I snuck (sneaked?) a peak at Emily's pick for next month and it's very neat.

syrup & ice cream
I procrastinated on these squares for some reason. But inspired by Liz, Mardie, & Teriney, I hunted fussy cuts. I couldn't decide on just one, so I did two. I hope they're what you wanted, Becca.
now I'm in the mood for a funnel cake!
